This is my digital identity hub. It's been at jeffschuler.net since 2001, and before that, in other locations, other incarnations, named with other incantations (like high-fidelity funkentelechy and The Fog that Surrounds.)
It was served from my parents' basement until summer 2008 -- first on a Power Mac G3 running Mac OS X, then a Dell server with Ubuntu. Thanks to Apache, MySQL, PHP, Perl, and my folks.
It was a difficult decision to quit hosting it myself, but it seems to make more sense, both from both power-efficiency and administrative standpoints. First, I offloaded my mail service to Google Apps.
A year later, I moved the website to BlueHost. The facilities they provide for $6.95 are incredible, and with the best customer service I've received anywhere. I recommend them highly, (and not because if you click through the banner and sign up I get a kickback...)
The site design was created nearly exclusively with a text editor and the pages are, for the most part, XHTML 1.0 and CSS 2.1 compliant (click banners for validation.) I strive to uphold web standards and accessibility guidelines.
I use Movable Type for templating and blogging.
